SKETCHUP

Captain Nemo’s Office Rendering

In my set design class we were tasked with choosing a fairy tale or children’s book and creating an environment for it based off of a real room we surveyed. I chose my dorm room and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I came up with the idea to design Captain Nemo’s Office since my room was so small to begin with. This was my first time using SketchUp and I was very happy with it. I got most of the objects in the room from 3D Warehouse and modified them to fit my needs. After that, I textured and colored everything to match my concept. The product was then put through a rendering extension and final touches were added through Photoshop.

FOAM BOARD, MISC.

1985 Romeo and Juliet Set

This was our second project in my set design class, and this time we had to redesign Romeo and Juliet to another time period and setting and then build it in a quarter inch scale model. I chose Berlin, Germany in 1985 because I felt that it could be easily adapted to the original story. The two sides could be East and West Germany and our two protagonists could live on opposite sides of the wall. I also have an adoration for the 80s in general, so it was very easy for me to get excited about this project! I built the model box from foam board as well as the bases for the buildings. Details like the brick were added with textured plastic sheets I painted and I even used materials like wet plaster for the deterioration of the wall.
