Rifted Worlds

This was a project for my Master Planning class in which we were all assigned to create theme park concepts based on public domain stories before the class even started. What we didn’t know is that for the next ten weeks we would be creating a theme park that merged our own ideas into one park. In order to combine our concepts, we went with the idea of “Rifted Worlds” where different dimensions collided to form one park. The concept I created for my area was called Twisted Tales, and it was a dark but whimsical take on Grimm’s fairy tales whose style was largely inspired by German Expressionist film. The entrance land to the park was Cryptid Corner, a midwestern town that had been struck by rifts in space and time that allowed cryptids from all over the world to invade. The lands surrounding mine were The Curse of Swan Lake, a werewolf twist on the classic tale, and the Cyber City of Oz, a high-tech version of the original story. By far the hardest part of this project was trying to combine all of our unique ideas into one cohesive story.

Using Photoshop, I created the “hero shots” and logos for the park and each land, as well as a piece of signage for each. Below, I also included further development for my own land, where I created a rough model of what it might look like using Rhino and models form 3D warehouse.

The images used in the hero shots and signage were from Adobe Stock using an educational license.

Riftview Lodge

As an add-on for the project, we were to design a resort that would go along with the park. We came up with the idea of Riftview Lodge, a once popular resort destination founded in the ’80s that was struggling for attendance until the rift event. Now it serves as a sort of modern “adventurer’s tavern” where “world walkers” (guests) from all over the world visit to study and experience this phenomenon.

I created a promo poster for the resort as well as a logo, outdoor sign, key tag, and sample ad.
