FOAM & LATEX
Gourdon
This was my first time casting in latex. I first sculpted the gourd, dunked it in alginate, which then hardened around it. I pulled it from the alginate and brushed in latex. Once that was dry, I sprayed expandable foam to fill the rest in. I then de-molded the sculpture. The latex shrunk a bit and left a wrinkly texture, which, thankfully, worked to my advantage here. Because of it, though, I wouldn't use the same process again. I painted it with a mixture of acrylic paint and liquid latex to avoid cracking. This sculpture was part of my multiple realities concentration. Here, I designed a character around a reality in which plants were alive and had a consciousness.
