Samus Armor

Built in 2014, this was the first set of EVA foam armor I ever created. I patterned it out of posterboard and then transferred the templates to foam. The pieces were then coated in Plasti-Dip and painted. Lighting in the shoulders, helmet, and gun was added later.

Mellon Collie Set

In my first production design class, we had an assignment to create a stage set based on a short piece of music. We also had to use lighting and movement to convey mood. I was inspired by the Smashing Pumpkins’ instrumental “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” and emulated the album art style in the design of the set (which, in itself, emulated the style of Georges Melies). For the transition, I made the second set able to be lowered down from the top of the model and I also changed the lighting to fit into a more warm, dreamlike state like the music.

A-Frame House Design

This piece was also done in my first production design class. The assignment was a group project with the task of reimagining a classic fairy tale and creating different elements of the production design process. My job was to create a model of a 1960s style A-frame house where we would set our reimagined version of Rumpelstiltskin.

Rock Is Dead

This piece was actually a school project that I modified to put on Redbubble. In the original project, we had to divide our piece into sections that each had their own color scheme. For that one, I had a starburst coming out of the record. I didn’t particularly like it and I had my own ideas on how to make the piece look as good as my original idea, so after I had finished what was needed for the assignment I redid some of it and got it to the point that you see right now.

Comic Collection

In late 2019, I started experimenting with different styles of digital drawing, since before then I had stuck with a style that was slightly more stylized and didn’t have any lines or texture. With this style, I can add both, and it gives a bit more life and movement to the artwork I make. I’ve always loved comic books, and some of the painting ideas that had been floating around in my head for a while were better suited for a dynamic environment – one that my previous styles just couldn’t deliver on.
